What If...We Face The Giants?

My son had his football draft on Monday and Tuesday of this week. The heat index in Kansas City was over 100 degrees yet boys from all over the area gathered for this two-day draft with the hope of getting on the team they desired. Some did. Some didn't.

Sports are a big deal in my house...especially football. To prepare for the "big draft" we gathered for family night to watch the film everyone has been telling us that we must see: Face The Giants. Now, it's my turn to spread the word. Even if you are not a football fan, you must see this film!

Face The Giants is about a small high-school football team on a big losing streak. The townfolk are gathering together in conspiracy to have the coach removed. Coach digs deep into his faith in God. He prays and feels compelled to create a purpose for his team based on giving God the glory.

"Whether we win or lose, we praise God."

Ultimately this losing team ends up at the state championship "Facing The Giants". (I won't spoil the ending. Watch the movie!)

My son is 12 years old but he's a small 12...one of the smallest in his class. To watch him on the field, he truly exemplied this idea of facing the giants. Some of these boys were huge! And, there is Tristan, at least a head shorter if not more. But he is fast. Speedy Gonzalez fast! Race after race, drill after drill...there he was in the top 2 or 3.

My husband and I stood on the sidelines in amazement. Our little guys was not only facing the giants but winning. His focus, his determination, his desire put him over the edge. (Of course, it helps that God has gifted him in athletics.)

Before we left for the draft, with the movie clearly in our minds, we said to Tristan...Whether you win or lose, you praise God, okay?

Everyday we have an opportunity to Face The Giant. We either move forward boldly under the covering of our Heavenly Father or retreat in the defeat of the Enemy. Today, I reaffirm this position of victory. Today, I face my giants! How about you?

Great post, Randee. I think for us women, our giants tend to be those gremlins -- inside and outside of our heads -- that says, "Who do you think you are to do that?" or "You're not good enough, smart enough, tall enough, whatever enough." We, too, need to face those giants, and know that God created us with our own individually unique gifts and talents. And, like Tristan, in our own individual packages, we have exactly what we need to do what God has created us to do. And to know that through Christ, we are more than enough. Thank you, Randee for the reminder...and the resource! Peace, Carolyn

Amen, amen, and amen.

Carolyn, I couldn't agree with you more. Even as I was writing I was mindful of these same "gremlins" you refer to as our giants.

Thanks!

Randee, I loved how God gave you all that movie to watch before Tristan's tryouts. I can't think of a better phrase for any of us: "Win or lose, we praise God." That puts our life in such great perspective, because it means no matter what - there is victory.

I sit here in tears over this post.

I face my giant daily "Fibromyalgia". I know my God is the victor in all things.

I pray that God would be the victor in this battle with Fibromyalgia allowing me to be the woman of God HE wants for me. I thank YOU Jesus in Your precious name, amen.

No matter what the circumstances, we can glorify God. Always.

Perhaps, it's the ultimate test. How will we respond to our suffering? Will we choose to glorify Him or not?

Kimberly, I can't even begin to fathom what it would feel like to live with fibromyalgia. But, you can be the woman God intended you to be. Perhaps, you already are. Maybe, just maybe, you're "perfect" just as you are.

(I hope I don't sound trite but loving. This is my intention.)

Randee, how proud you must be of your son to be facing his giants. This is a movie that my friend had told me about and that I need to see it. I think I just might have to now. I will suggest we see it for our next family movie night.

I think I need to add to my phrase I say to my kids from from now on to "It doesn't matter whether you win or lose but that you have fun" the add "and praise God"

My little guy got pummeled by one of these giants at football practice. Banged up his right hand pretty good.

I didn't even know he was hurt until he came in last place on the crab crawl. He always takes first here. I knew something had to be wrong. By the time he got to me his hand was bruised and swollen...on the inside and out.

Did I mention he's at practice tonight? I'm thinking it's time for the "MOMMY VETO"!

Hi everyone. It has been many months since I last posted. I've enjoyed getting caught up on this rainy Saturday. I wish I'd seen this movie years ago while my son was battling highschool athletic politics. He is now on to college, living on his own and praising God in ways that we would never have dreamed had he stayed in sports. Thank you, God.

Kimberly,
God in his wisdom has led me back to this blogsite to find you. I, too, have FM. Please email me at 16dirtypaws@sbcglobal.net. Can't wait to hear from you!!!!!
